Contamination survey at a pulp and paper mill in Sviscov, northern Bulgaria, was carried out in cooperation with a Romanian geotechnical survey provider. The work included an assessment of soil and groundwater contamination in the vicinity of above-ground oil tanks formerly used for heating and steam production.
The contamination survey of this extensive site focused on the presence of petroleum-contaminated fill materials. The contamination was verified through drilling and laboratory analysis of soil and groundwater samples. The thickness of the fill layer and the presence of underground structures from the former sugar mill were further investigated using geophysical methods.
For the revitalisation of this former industrial site, a contamination survey was conducted targeting fill material, soils, and groundwater. The survey also included a screening for potential methane presence in soil gas due to historical coal mining activities. A subsequent risk assessment revealed no unacceptable risks, allowing the construction of new industrial halls to proceed.
For Panattoni, ENACON supervised the revitalization of a large former trolleybus manufacturing site in Ostrov nad Ohří. The supervision included oversight of demolition and remediation activities, monitoring of remediated and recycled construction materials, and ensuring the contractor's compliance with environmental obligations. Following the controlled demolition of the buildings and remediation of the contaminated subsoil, the site was transformed into a modern logistics center
In cooperation with Vodní zdroje a.s., we carried out a supplementary investigation of five sectors within the former integrated steelworks site. Although the buildings had already been demolished, extensive underground structures and large volumes of surface fill remained. According to a risk analysis conducted by Vodní zdroje, the primary contaminants of concern were free-phase tar residues from former coal gas production and elevated levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the widespread fill material. Remediation was subsequently undertaken under ENACON’s supervision, including the removal of additional contaminants uncovered during earthworks for the construction of new industrial facilities.
For Panattoni and Accolade, we conducted both phases of the environmental site audit, with a particular focus on the sediment lagoons of the former sugar mill. At the time of the audit, the lagoons had already been covered with soil and backfill, including demolition debris from the former factory. A risk analysis identified elevated concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the fill material, classifying it as hazardous. Remediation was subsequently carried out under the supervision of ENACON specialists. Following the successful remediation, a new Amazon distribution center was constructed on the site
