In a consortium consisting of ENVI-AQUA, DEKONTA, and ENACON, we conducted remediation of groundwater contaminated by chlorinated hydrocarbons. The applied methods included controlled in-situ chemical oxidation (RISCO technology) and enhanced reductive dechlorination.

For over 13 years, we were responsible for evaluating groundwater monitoring data and designing monitoring well networks for the state enterprise DIAMO. The monitored environmental burden is associated with the former uranium ore processing plant and the disposal of treatment sludges in surface ponds and former lignite open-pit mines. The monitoring covered an extensive area around the towns of Mydlovary, Olešník, Zahájí, and Zliv in South Bohemia.

This project was part of the EU's 7th Framework Programme (coordinated by Fundación Labein, Spain). Its objective was to develop remediation technologies for soil and groundwater contaminated with chlorinated hydrocarbons, with emphasis on assessing and minimizing side effects of chemical oxidation methods.

Project VaV MPO FR-TI/555. The outcome was software capable of interpreting, balancing, and visualizing site investigation results, as well as proposing, evaluating, and optimizing remediation strategies. The main benefit of the Toolbox is the improvement of the remediation planning process, considering future land use and associated costs to achieve compliance with the intended site use.

This technology was developed in cooperation with DEKONTA as the main partner within a research project co-financed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic (project FR-TI1/237). The result is an in-situ remediation method utilizing the biodegradation potential of indigenous microorganisms to treat rock environments contaminated with trinitrotoluene (TNT). The technology’s effectiveness was validated through two pilot-scale applications at a real contaminated site.

The RISCO technology was developed and validated in collaboration with the main project partner, DEKONTA, within the research project VaV funded by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic (project FR-TI1/244). It is based on the sequential in-situ application of a surfactant and a strong oxidant (activated persulfate). It is particularly suitable for remediating hot spots of groundwater contamination with chlorinated hydrocarbons where a free phase is present. The technology's effectiveness was confirmed through four pilot-scale applications.
